California Parent Center
The Center
offers two-day training workshops for parent-teacher-principal teams on forming partnerships for student success. The Center also provides statewide technical assistance to schools and districts in the area of parent involvement and offers a certificate program for parent liaisons.  http://parent.sdsu.edu/    

 

 

County Offices of Education Some County Offices of Education provide training for parent liaisons, school site councils, family literacy coaches, and school/family/community partnerships. Contact your local County Office and ask for the Parent Involvement contact.   

 

MALDEF PSP (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund Parent School Partnership) This organization trains parents, school personnel, and community based organization's to provide leadership toward the educational attainment of children. The sixteen session program includes: procedures, forms, and best practices that assist participants to successfully implement and sustain the program anywhere in a given county. The curriculum offers sessions that highlight parent rights and responsibilities; structure and function of schools; parent/teacher conferences; understanding group process; principles of leadership; and the road to the university. www.maldef.org/psp 

 

Parents as Teachers (PAT)

PAT is a national program for parents of pre-school children. Home educators provide information, support and encouragement to parents so that they can help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. www.parentsasteachers.org  

 

Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE)Through the nine-week PIQE training program, parents learn how to improve their child’s performance in the classroom, enhance the parent/child relationship, motivate their child to stay in school and identify steps to help their child attend a college or university. Classes, taught in English, Spanish and twelve other languages, are offered in morning and evening sessions. The classes are taught by professional facilitators. Talk to your site council, principal, community liaison, or your district's community relations coordinator to invite PIQE to your school or district. Four curricula are available:  preschool, elementary, middle and high school. www.piqe.org 

 

Project INSPIRE (Innovations that Nurture Success and Parent Involvement to Reach Excellence) INSPIRE is a Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement and is the result of a partnership between the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), the San Bernardino County Superintendent of School (SBCC), and Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE). Project INSPIRE provides parent education and leadership development to parents throughout California with an emphasis on services to parents of California's most disadvantaged students. Parent leaders are trained to provide training to other parents and to effectively participate in local school reform efforts. www.billingualeducation.org/programs parent.php
